Problems
What does our world face right now?
Air Pollution:
The hyperboloid cooling towers we iconically associate with nuclear power plants are not releasing smoke. The white gas leaving those towers is pure water vapor. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, methane, and particulate matter in the form of smoke. Switching from fossil fuels to nuclear power will reduce the amount of these pollutants in the air.
Water Security:
Unfortunately, nuclear power has been unduly stigmatized with depictions of three eyed fish. In reality nuclear energy is very capable of alleviating the water scarcity around the world(9). Nuclear energy is already used in desalination plants(8). There are two enclosed heat loops, isolating deslinated drinking water from the water used in normal operation of the nuclear power plant(9). This reduces the concentration of tritium (hydrogen 3) to less than 1% of acceptable threshold in the USA(9).
Climate Change:
Nuclear power plants do not produce greenhouse gas emissions. They are clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Nuclear power plants are enclosed systems. Increasing reliance on nuclear energy while reducing reliance on fossil fuels will lower the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.(10)
